Why Our Marriage Events Are Selling Out

 
Unfortunately, it is a desperate day in which we live. Our society is akin to Isaiah’s audience in the Old Testament.

Isaiah wrote in his first chapter:
 

“Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the Lord, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.

Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.” – Isaiah 1:4-6

 
Sounds a little rough. In fact, I am sure some have stopped reading as this type of content is only so palatable to our taste. However, our ignorance of our current state does not negate the reality of what we have become as a people.
 

 
I am on the front-line of helping people every day. I have been entrenched in this position for almost 20 years, and I would have to say that the unhealthiness of our current day is almost overwhelming.
 

People Are Desperate

 
Why are our conferences selling out? To me, it is simple. People are desperate, and all they know is that, up to this point, whatever they have done to solve their marital issues has not worked. They are, frankly, open to anything that could possibly help.

On a good note, though the pain and the heartache is overwhelming, it is also serving a purpose. It is an evangelist of sorts that is breaking the wills of people that, formerly, would not have listened. It is a messenger that says that we do not have it all figured out.

In 2003, I started speaking at marriage conferences. Back then, when I talked about the need for God and the Holy Spirit, I was humored by many. However, the tide is changing. People are keyed in . They are listening more intently, They realize that psychology alone is not going to help. They are recognizing that they have a deeper need than mere knowledge. Power is key, and more people than we realize are opening themselves up to the love of Christ which passeth knowledge.
