Is it important to have God in marriage? Of course, as a pastor and Bible teacher, I believe the answer is a resounding yes. But, here is a short story as to why it is vital to have God in marriage relationships. I hope you enjoy this little sage illustration concerning our family excursions.
A Long Car Ride
My wife and I have six children. When they were little, we would leave for long trips in the middle of the night so as to avoid any needless stops. Tiresome? Of course. Efficient? You had better believe it as there were far less potty breaks to take in comparison to traveling during the daytime.
Imagine during one of those midnight excursions if I decided to drive without my headlights. Would that be a wise move? Though the answer is quite obvious, what about the countless number of families that are driving without the light of God’s Word in their home (Psalm 119:13, John 8:12, and Psalm 119:105)? Is there any wonder that multitudes of marriages are crashing and burning in this dark world of sin and selfishness?
Even if God was Not Real
Of course, I believe in God. However, even if He was not real, I would still want the principles of His Book and His Ways in my marriage. To be honest, it is the only way that makes sense, and it is the only thing that has ever worked for me.
